About Dr Mike Olsen

Dr Michael Olsen, B.Sc. (Hons), PhD, Field Botanist (retired)

My earliest memories were being shown the treasures of the Australian natural landscape by my late parents. My father and talented nature artist and cartographer, Herbert Francis (Frank) Olsen, encouraging my love of nature on our many adventures.

Whilst the academic degrees satisfied the bureaucracy, much of my current knowledge was bestowed upon me by walking country with Australia’s First People’s elders and other learned folk.

This imparted in me a unique responsibility to share this information with others. Upon my retirement, I decided to chronicle these lessons with a series of field guides, the information on my website and my future book.
